OUR WHY

Why is living sustainably important?

Did you know that:

  • Industrialized countries waste an estimated US$680 billion every year according to UN Food and Agriculture
  • The United States has one of the highest gender wage gaps in the developed world.
  • There will be about 1 billion more mouths to feed worldwide by 2025 and global agriculture alone will require another 1 trillion cubic meters of water per year
  • 780 million people live without clean drinking water.

Understanding & addressing Environmental, Social & Governance challenges in our world can have a significant impact on the health of our society.  Issues like climate change, water stress, deforestation, inequality, access to medicine, and corporate transparency are real issues that have profound direct and indirect effects on our lives.

What can we do:

By integrating sustainable products and behaviors throughout our everyday lives, we have the opportunity to embed sustainability into the core of who are; we start living a Sustainable Lifestyle and positively impact our society in so many important ways; by addressing water shortage through our groceries, supporting equality through our clothing choices, reducing plastic waste through our skin-care products, reducing catalysts for pollution by choosing the right house-hold products, investing in companies that are addressing these systemic risks through our mutual funds, etc.

Please join us living more sustainably, so that you not only make a difference, but so that you are the difference; and in doing that, become a more sustainable YOU.

WHO WE ARE

Shila Wattamwar, Founder of Sustainable Me smiling

Shila Wattamwar

Founder

For 15+ years I’ve been in the financial services industry, with a focus on Sustainable investing for the last 7 years. I am now an Executive Director at a large organization where I oversee the firm’s sustainable investing product strategy in the retail and wealth segment. As part of my current work, I’ve come to realize that there is so much noise around the concept of sustainability.  Sustainable investing is one area, but we also hear about sustainably grown coffee beans, organic wine, women empowerment fashion lines, solar panels, etc.  And while all that noise makes it an ideal time to talk about sustainability products, people often hear and think about these things in silo and do not think about its effect or place in their lives.  I believe that for someone to meaningfully integrate any of these areas into their lives, they need to think about them holistically towards a sustainable lifestyle.

I have a wonderful family including my husband and 2 young sons, 6 & 9. I have a passion for cooking, travel and wellness.  My personal goal is to meaningfully integrate sustainability across my life so that my kids grow up having a sustainable lifestyle embedded into who they are.
